According to a Florida-based gastroenterologist, you can naturally strengthen your liver by incorporating a few key foods into your diet. The expert shared a list of seven fruits and vegetables that are packed with nutrients to support this essential organ.

Two standout recommendations are watermelon with lime and cranberries. The watermelon-lime combination is suggested because watermelon’s citrulline and lime’s vitamin C work together to enhance nitric oxide production, supporting healthy blood flow to the liver. Cranberries are valued for their gut-boosting polyphenols, which strengthen the gut-liver axis.

The list also includes other powerful fruits. Pomegranates are highlighted for their unique polyphenols, such as ellagitannins, which studies suggest can help soothe inflammatory signals affecting the liver. Raspberries are also on the list, credited with helping to regulate blood sugar and fat processing thanks to their fiber and anthocyanins.

A particularly interesting pairing is apples with cinnamon. According to the specialist, apples provide pectin (a soluble fiber) and polyphenols. Cinnamon complements this by containing compounds that are studied for their potential to support insulin sensitivity and healthier lipid profiles.

To complete the seven, beetroot is recommended for its nitrates and betaine, which help the liver process fat. Finally, strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+) are suggested for their flavanol content, which boosts blood vessel function and cardiometabolic health.
