The war in Ukraine “is lost by Ukraine and the West,” Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov declared this week at an event in Gurugram.
The ambassador credited President Donald Trump with understanding this “futility,” while simultaneously criticizing European nations for their “belligerence” and “craziness” in believing a Ukrainian victory is still possible.
Alipov described the European hope that Russia could be defeated militarily as “childish behavior” and “unprofessional,” stating there is “no chance” of this happening.
He then explained the reasoning behind his certainty: Russia’s nuclear arsenal. “You can’t, you know, take over us in this conflict simply because of nuclear weapons,” he said.
This statement was underpinned by a reminder of Russia’s official military policy, which allows for the use of nuclear weapons should Moscow perceive an “existential threat” to its survival.
