Spain is bracing for another round of scorching temperatures as a wave of extreme heat is expected to continue into the weekend. Forecasts from the national weather agency predict temperatures soaring above 40C in several regions, prompting an extension of orange heat warnings through Friday. Madrid and parts of southern Spain could see temperatures reach 42C, while the interior of Andalusia is likely to experience the most severe heat, with highs ranging from 42C to 43C.
In particular, Córdoba and Sevilla are forecasted to be among the hardest-hit areas. Córdoba’s temperatures are anticipated to peak at around 43C on Thursday, with the mercury staying near 40C the following day. The province remains under a yellow heat warning, with the unseasonable temperatures expected to linger into early next week. Meanwhile, in Sevilla, the Campiña Sevillana is also under an orange alert, with predictions of temperatures reaching 41C during the afternoon and evening hours.
The sweltering heat is not confined to these regions alone. Areas such as Badajoz, Cáceres, Granada, Jaén, Zaragoza, Lleida, Logroño, and Toledo are all expected to experience temperatures of 40C or higher. On the islands, Mallorca may see highs surpassing 35C. In addition to the daytime heat, warm nights are forecasted across southern Spain, the Mediterranean coast, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands, where minimum temperatures could remain around 25C overnight.
This intense heatwave is attributed to a very warm air mass over mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, which is also elevating wildfire risks, leading to potentially extreme fire danger in some areas. Although a slight decrease in temperatures is anticipated in certain regions after Friday, the overall hot conditions are expected to persist through the weekend. In contrast, northern coastal areas are likely to remain cooler, with temperatures mostly settled in the mid-20s.
