Saudi Arabia and Serbia are deepening their economic and diplomatic ties, with both nations targeting enhanced collaboration in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the countries have focused on joint energy ventures, advancements in information and communications technology, and the potential for greater agricultural cooperation. These talks also considered strategies to increase the footprint of Serbian companies in the Saudi market, alongside boosting Saudi investments within Serbia.
In a significant diplomatic move, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement eliminating visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to streamline and enhance official exchanges between the two nations, further solidifying their partnership.
The trade relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has witnessed remarkable growth. Bilateral trade surged to $121 million in 2025, marking an almost ninefold increase since 2012. This upward trajectory continued into 2026, with trade reaching $130.4 million in the first half of the year—a substantial 152% rise compared to the same period the previous year. Such robust growth underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are poised to offer additional platforms for investment, business partnerships, and the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has already committed to participating in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic progress, innovations, cultural heritage, and investment prospects.
In addition to these developments, both countries are keen on exploring collaborations in science and technology. Serbia is also set to make its presence felt at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with more than 50 Serbian companies slated to participate, further exemplifying the growing partnership between these nations.
