The widening trade deficit between the European Union and China is intensifying pressure on European policymakers to recalibrate their economic strategies. As of July 2026, the EU’s trade deficit with China soared to €36.5 billion, reflecting a significant imbalance where imports from China outpaced exports by nearly threefold.
Eurostat data reveals that EU imports from China increased by 8 percent year-on-year, reaching €53.9 billion in July, while exports to China saw a slight decline of 1.6 percent, totaling €17.4 billion.
